food4future at the Green Visions Festival 2025
Science meets cinema!
30.05.2025
Despite the rain, which almost caused the festival to fall through, our food4future team had a stroke of luck: the stand was spontaneously relocated to the foyer - opposite the performance venue of invited author Elisabeth Fischer - and was therefore very well attended throughout the day. The result was a lively atmosphere with many conversations, questions and exciting encounters.
Dr. Anna Fricke (IGZ), together with Valeriya Denisova, Yannick Schwert and Marino Gabel (HTW Berlin), presented key aspects of algae research - from cultivation systems to living and herbarized macroalgae to an interactive algae app and a knowledge quiz about macroalgae and food systems of the future. Visitors were also able to sample algae tea and algae snacks and find out about the variety of macroalgae products used in everyday life.
Following the screening of the impressive documentary “Seaweed Stories” (USA, 2024, director: Jake Sumner), Anna Fricke discussed the potential of algae for sustainable nutrition and ecological change in a moderated film discussion with cookbook author Elisabeth Fischer. The discussion was moderated by Annette Weiß (proWissen Potsdam e. V.).
The film impressively showed how seaweed is not only fascinating from a culinary perspective, but can also be used as a nature-based solution to global challenges such as plastic pollution, CO₂ sequestration and climate protection. The subsequent discussion was characterized by lively audience interest and exciting questions - an inspiring exchange at eye level.
food4future would like to thank the festival team, all visitors and participants for this successful day.
